As the gates at either end of Cedar walk in the area where the cache is located are usually chained due to live stock the cache is best accessed from the public footpath that crosses Cedar Walk. Whatever footpath is taken there are fields and several stiles that will have to be negoiated. Suggested parking is at N 51° 06.154 W 002° 42.354 where a short walk a long the road will take you to a stile (See waypoint). Other parking is available elsewhere if another route is preferred.
I often wondered what purpose Cedar Walk served so the decision to place a cache there gave me the incentive to find out. As it happened it wasn't that difficult to do.
The mile long avenue of cedar trees known as Cedar Walk originally linked the Admiral Hood Monument that stands on the hill above Compton Dundon to the Hood family home at Butleigh. The Admiral Hood Monument was built in the 19th century and the folly commemorates the spectacular career of a local boy who left home when he was fourteen to join the Navy and went on to become an Admiral.
