Twin Crossing of the Big Hole
In the early days before cars and trucks, the road from Butte to Wisdom was traveled by freight wagons pulled by horses. Near this spot the river ran close to the rock face west of the river. To get to Wisdom, the road crossed the Big Hole river two times. Some time of the year worked better than others. The river was rerouted to accommodate the road bed in the 20s, the current roadbed was completed in 1939 and 1940. Wallace Christiansen worked on the project.
