Geocache Description:

A great view of a wild lake with an undeveloped shoreline.

Legend has it that Al Capone and his crew often traveled through this area. This wild 48 acres lake has been known to be named by the sparkle of the water in direct sunlight shinning like diamonds. Others will tell you a tale of a chase between the authorities and Al Capone where he hid a real stash of diamonds in or around this area. Too bad Al didn't have a GPS.

The lake is a great fishing hole and picnic area all season. Walk in restrooms, pavilions, boat dock, fishing dock and swimming area makes it a great quiet little spot. Can get busy so watch yourself as you seek this cache.

As a soft water drainage lake, it has a diverse population of fish and aquatic plants. Look for such wetland species as cattails, pickerel week, yellow and white water-lily, water-shield and coon's tail surrounding Diamond Lake and Creek and its areas of open bog and marsh. Catch game fish like walleye, largemouth bass, northern pike, bluegill, black crappie, and yellow perch. Many of these fish and non-game fish reproduce well and spawn in the waters, therefore require minimal to no stocking. Mammals that live on the Lake's natural undisturbed shoreline include muskrat, mink, weasel and otter as well as a variety of wetland and migratory birds.
