SOO Postal (Auckland) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

jandalfan: had hoped to tempt people to walk the neighbourhood but it didn't really work and the cache has come undone twice - I think when the council waterblasts the graffitti off. The first time we managed to salvage the cache and reglue it but this time the cache has been removed and the ferrous disk rather dangerously bent down. We considered moving it across the road and even submitted the edits but we don't really think it makes for a good hide so bye bye...

Geocache Description:

One of a series of caches to encourage cachers to enjoy walking the public access ways of our neighbourhood. These shortcuts between streets are called snickets by the English. This series is designed to be newbie friendly.

Took me a while in a hilly neighbourhood to find a hide I could claim as wheel chair friendly. Parking on Te Arawa Street is a couple of metres away and access is paved but I recommend you include this cache as a walking tour of Orakei.

There is a snicket from Bastion Point at WP1 and if the terrain in front of you looks too steep and slippery, if wet, there is a parallel paved snicket with stairs that starts at WP2.

On reaching Aotea Street follow Aotea Reserve north then east and turn left on Atkin Ave. Mission Bay is straight ahead.

The cache has been muggled as of 2 Dec. It is now a black mint tin but is opposite the co-ordinates (think on west side of road vs east) and attached by magnet to the metal top of the drain. It contains a log sheet, no pencil and there is little room for much else.
