A traditional cache located on the scenic Emley Village Trail which begins at Emley Cross. The trail is approximately 3 miles long. This Trail has been researched and designed by the children of Emley First School with the help of Emley Footpath Society. There is a leaflet available giving details of the trail from www.denbydale.com/content/emleyvillage. Parking is available in the car park behind the Post Office. There are other possible caches along this walk.
Emley is a village located midway between Huddersfield and Wakefield with a population of 1867 according to the 2001 Census.
Emley was mentioned in the 1086 Doomsday Book. The village was known as Emmesleia. The white stone in the centre of the village is the remains of the market cross, the upper part being destroyed during the Civil War.
A well known landmark is the Emley Moor TV Transmitting Station. This mast replaced one which collapsed on the 19th March l969 after accumulation of ice and strong winds.
A traditional event which takes place every seven years is the 17 mile Emley Boundary Walk. The event has been going since about 1857, the most recent was held in 2007.
Stout footwear is recommended as paths are often muddy. Great care should be taken around the cache area and children should certainly be supervised.
