Close to nature, on the border of civilization, is Kitayama Koen which translates as North Mountain Park.
It may be hard to believe that an area like this is part of Tokyo, the most populous metropolitan area on earth. On the border of Saitama prefecture, this park is located in Higashimurayama and changes throughout the year. I visit it often and it is never the same each time. Depending on when you come, you'll find flowers, rice paddies, water plants, frogs, birds, other wildlife and maybe a festival. And you'll always find nature lovers and families out for a stroll and boys looking for crayfish.
If you know the Totoro animations, you will know this park. And with Hachikokuyama in the background, if you listen quietly, you may hear the steam whistle from the miniature steam engine in Seibuen Amusement park. Or maybe you'll feel the ghost of a samurai who died 700 years ago in the great battle of Kumegawa nearby.
A little west of the park on the other side of the Kitayama elementary school is the Kitayama Taiken museum which recreates the history of the area including the prehistoric settlement that occupied the park 2000 years ago. Though the displays are in Japanese, you do not need to read it to understand.
The cache is on the west side corner of the park near the Kitayama elementary school. It is a small plastic locked container.
