This is one of a series of caches to be placed in the Summerland area. Our username is based on The Famous Five series of books written by Enid Blyton. The cache names will reflect this, but will also describe in some way the area where the caches will be found.
Over the last few years we have wanted to get to the top of Conkle Mountain. Recently we were out mountain biking and found a trail that looked to head up to the top. Today, we hiked up and found our way relatively easily. It would be a challenging bike ride with a couple of steep sections.
Allow at least an hour and a half for the return trip, and take a camera. You should also bring water if doing this cache in the summer months. You can take trails all the way to the top. After climbing up the steep section along the fence, the road turns to the left and flattens out for a little bit. Shortly thereafter, the trail leaves the fence line. Our way up was to take the sharp right turn onto a single track (about 100m after leaving the fence line). Follow this trail to N49 34.745 W 119 42.049. At this location, look 20 metres up the hill from the tree to see the next trail. From there onwards, you are on your own. Cache elevation = 3059 ft.
After finding the cache, take the time to walk a couple of hundred metres north to get a nice view of Summerland.
Enjoy the hike (or bike ride) and please stay on the trails. There is a $5 FTF prize. Good luck!
