One in a Thousand Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Handsyhands: Due to recent DNF's plus the fact the initial challenge is now completely overgrown, I will archive this one. Hope to place a similar cache in the near future ... to be continued!

Geocache Description:

Royal Marine Commando - it's a State of Mind!

99.9% need not apply but that’s not the only reason I called this cache ‘One in a Thousand’ and as you near the cache it should become quite apparent.  The four elements of Commando Spirit; courage, determination, unselfishness, and cheerfulness in the face of adversity, are well known to all recruits by the time they complete Commando training … but do you have what it takes?

Please be aware that the Royal Marines use the area regularly (especially at night) and red flags flying signify that the range is in use. However, there is no need to enter the danger area at any time.

Please make sure you cover your tracks well when you’ve finished and remove all evidence of your visit and please don't give any clues ... you're in the Marines now!

The cache is located on Colaton Raleigh Common which is one of seven commons making up the East Devon Pebblebed Heaths and is an area of Special Scientific Interest.  Without careful management, heathlands would deteriorate into scrub and this valuable habitat with its rare animal and plant species would be lost.  The East Devon Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust is a charity which employs full time wardens to look after the heaths and implement their Heathland Management Plan, developed in conjunction with Natural England.  The Warden’s work throughout the year, maintaining the heathlands by activities such as scrub and bracken clearance, cutting firebreaks, maintaining paths for walkers and supervising selective grazing by cattle, conservation volunteers also play and important part in the maintenance programme.  You can play your part too and if you come across any litter whilst completing this cache then please pick it up and take it home with you.

Permission for this cache has been kindly granted by the Trust and they simply ask that you keep within the guidelines listed on the Public Notice boards located at the car parks.  For more information please click on the links below.
