Geocache Description:

Hide as good or better.

Pan Motor Company - The automobile manufacturing business came to St. Cloud in 1917 thanks to Samuel Pandolfo. At the Pan Motor Company approximately 750 cars were built between 1917 and 1922, but due to financial constraints the business closed. An area of St. Cloud is still known as Pantown, which consists of houses that were built for Pandolfo's factory workers. These were well constructed and of diverse styles. Along with this Sam Pandolfo convinced the city of St. Cloud to extend a sewer line out to this development.

The “large factory” wasn’t just a large factory; it was a 22 acre complex of buildings with underground tunnels connecting them. These tunnels carried electricity and heat to all the buildings. As well as being able to walk from building to building without going out into the cold. Some of these building are still in use today. Just across the railroad tracks to the south of the Pan plant no.1, is where Samuel Pandolfo started the Pandolfo Manufacturing Company. Here he produced the Combination Compartment Tank used on the Pan Automobile, folding chairs, coffee makers, “A Table of More than Ordinary Usefulness” that became known as a TV tray, and many other utilitarian items.

Samuel Pandolfo accomplished a great deal, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in a relatively short time. What is even more amazing is the fact the World War I was happening during this same time period.

See the local Pan Motor Company Office and Sheet Metal Works at 435-437 33rd Avenue North in St. Cloud. Pantown Residential District is made up of 57 homes located in the area of 8th Street North to 10th Street North and 33rd Avenue North to 39th Avenue North in St. Cloud.
