Aquatic Reserve Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Aljos: With so few visitors and the cache now being in a poor state it does look like this one has run its race. Time to put it to sleep. We will collect any geo-trash the first time we are passing.

Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of caches created for the purpose of introducing geocachers to the rich history, the extensive path network and the general scenic beauty of the Irvine Valley.

This is a little gem of a spot that even most of the locals are unaware about. It is called the 'Parkerston Nature Park' and it is situated only a few hundred yards away from the old industrial area of Newmilns. At one time it was a deep concreted reservoir that was used to provide the necessary water for the lace trade bleachworks. There remains very little evidence of its past now that it has been converted into an aquatic reserve.
Nearest parking is in Brown Street near the Vesuvius plant.
Take the left fork uphill past Vesuvius, cross the bridge and continue to the farm track on the left. Follow the RH fence at the bend leading to the stile. Head up the field to the wooden gate.
Unusual camoed container and big enough to hold TBs and coins.
