Geocache Description:

National BSA has created "Get in the Game" to celebrate their 100th anniversary as a way to get more boys outdoors and to promote geocaching to the scouting community.  We are holding a Geo-Scouting 101 "class" to introduce scouting units (packs, troops and crews) to geocaching.  You can come with your scouting unit or come as a geocacher. Everyone is welcome to come learn or help teach others. So please join us.

 Date:  January 2, 2010

Time: 10 AM to 3 PM

At Greene Grove in Washington Crossing State Park, Titusville, NJ

You will learn :

  • how to program a GPS unit

  • how to search out local geocaches (we expect to have a few more placed in time of the even to give all the seasoned geocachers new caches to find)

  • about the different types of geocaches

  • how to place you own geocaches

  • what travel bugs and other trackables are.  We will launching 5 special "Pillars of Scouting" travel bugs to start their journeys.

Geocachers from the Central Jersey Geocachers club will be on hand to answer any other questions you might have.  There may also be some geocaching items for sale that include ammo cans, travel bug tags and geocoins.

Please bring your own lunch and a can of either chicken noodle soup or vegetarian soup.  We will have hot soup available all day along with other hot beverages that include coffee, tea, hot cocoa and apple cider.

Important note for scouting units:

Please register your unit with Jean Thayer (email: littlered101@embarqmail.com).  Let her know your name, unit number, district, number of people attending and if you are a registered geocacher, your geocaching name.

You don't need to be at the event for the whole time, but you can stay all day and have fun.  The information sessions will be repeated throughout the event.
