Welcome to "Challenge Lake". These series of caches are inspired by I Challenge You and "Challenge Alley" in Sacramento, California. Enjoy! The cache is located at the posted coordinates.
Cache is located at the posted coordinates. In Greek mythology, Scylla and Charybdis were two sea monsters situated on opposite sides of the Strait of Messina between Sicily and Calabria, in Italy. Scylla had six heads on long necks, while Charybdis was a gigantic whirlpool. They were close enough to each other that they posed an unavoidable threat to passing sailors; sailors had to choose one or the other. When Odysseus was forced to choose which monster to confront, he chose to pass by Scylla and only lost a few sailors, rather than his entire ship in the whirlpool. In geocaching, I think that multi caches are a lot like Scylla with all its heads (i.e., stages) and that Charybdis shares many of the same qualities of unknown/puzzle caches--they just suck you in until you finally figure it out. So with a wink to Homer (the Greek not the Simpson), I've set up this challenge cache with a similar dilemma that involves chosing between multi or unknown/puzzle caches. Hopefully we won't lose too many geocachers to monsters along the way! To complete this challenge, find and log 26 caches starting with each letter of the alphabet, BUT you may only use multi or unknown/puzzle caches (any combination to get it done). Prepare your list, post it on the web site to confirm your finds, and then find this cache! There are no date limitations (old and new caches count), but you may only count caches that you've found (not hidden). If a cache starts with 'A' or 'The', then it only counts as an 'A' or 'T'. If it starts with a number, then you may not use it. You may ignore punctuation marks ('!@#$%^&*"). "Zero Hour" would count as a 'Z'. I'll update this cache with a hall of fame--Good luck!
