The Dexter Asylum Traditional Cache
otterob: As the teacher of the D Environmental Science class of 2013, who retired at age 69, 9 years ago, our cache has finally given up the ghost of Dexter Asylum and has permanently disappeared into the stone wall that surrounded the Asylum. We appreciate passing on a bit of history to nearly 1,500 geocachers and thank the Geocaching Community and volunteers for their support. Peace be with you!

This site of Ebenezer Knight Dexter’s 39 acre Neck Farm was Providence’s answer to the “economy” for over 125 years from the late 1820s on, as the Dexter Asylum or Poor Farm. Brown University acquired the property in 1957.
Public parking is best found on Hope and Lloyd Streets after 3 pm when the Moses Brown School lets out. Watch out for Muggles. This is a big shortcut.
Right next door, on the site of the Old Dexter Poor Farm Dormitory, the orange ribbed building with the white bubble roof is the Pizzitola Athletic Center. This is private property that we have permission to use, so please respect all plantings and any inquisitive Brown University personnel.
This cache was produced by a Wheeler School Environmental Science Class of 2013. It is their first.
Take a yellow map of Providence in Roger Williams’ time, a Wheeler bracelet, a “token” of the wall from our rock and mineral set or a token from a year's supply. Leave a token of yourself.
