Geocache Description:

Deserters Cabin is located on the Barry Goldwater Range. A permit is required to enter the Range and you can obtain one at the Yuma's Marine Corps Air Station. The road to the Cabin is CLOSED. It is a little over 2 mile hike to the cache (each way).
Deserters Cabin got it’s name from an Army deserter in the 1940's. He lived at the cabin and working the Golden Dream Mine and nearby washes, trading his gold for supplies at Ligurta Station. He was arrested about 1965.
If you want to hike to the Golden Dream Mine, there is a trail up the hill to the right of the cabin remains. It’s about 1.3 miles to the mine with an elevation gain of over 1300 feet.
The cache is NOT a micro. It is a 50 cal. ammo can. This cache is for those that don’t like looking for micro’s in the desert.
