Most people's first reaction to this is: How could they possibly
have done that?
The answer lies in the fact that, for Depeche Mode, time is not
so much an irresistible force of nature as a small nuisance that
makes it hard for people to correctly interpret their lyrics.
Well, fair enough. But why did they 29 years ago feel that a
future geocacher deserved this kind of tribute?
It's not so strange. Just take a look at the facts. In February
of 2009, TimTim GO got the first taste of an FTF. Just over 8
months later, he reached first place on the Swedish all time FTF
top list. About a month later, he FTFed cache
GC21BGX while listening to A Question Of Time. This ushered in
a new era of even more intense FTFing in his life and made him
deserving, not only of some extra kudos, but also of a 29 year old
tribute.
Boys say go! |
Yes, we all say GO! As in TimTim GO. |
Boys say go! |
Boys say go! |
Boys say go! |
|
You don't understand |
Most people don't understand geocaching. Perhaps even fewer
understand FTF hunting. |
This is in demand |
But the geocaching community needs FTF hunters. Someone has to
be the first to find a cache. |
And I think that I have to show you |
TimTim GO has clearly shown the rest of us what FTF hunting is
all about. |
|
Try to look inside |
To get an FTF you have to be prepared to look inside
anything. |
Take me for a ride |
You have to have a nice ride that'll take you to new caches
quickly. |
In the day and the night get to
know you |
You have to get out there whenever a new cache shows up, day or
night. |
|
Boys meet boys get together |
"Boys meet boys" is a metaphor for geocaching. In the olden
days, it was almost exclusively a male sport. Getting together
refers to event caches. |
Boys meet boys it's forever |
Once you have started geocaching, it is very hard to stop. |
Don't say no |
An FTF hunter can't be a naysayer. |
Boys say go |
The FTF hunter must always be ready to go. Some of them even
include the magic word in their names to make themselves
remember... ;) |
|
I could run away |
Our top FTF hunter is always on the run. |
If you never stay |
And the rain and the pain and the sorrow |
FTF hunting can be a wet and painful experience. And when you
lose, it can be a saddening experience as well. |
|
I'm not very sure |
When you set out on an FTF hunt, you can never be
sure that you'll be first. |
When you close the door |
In the end it's the same as tomorrow |
And you can also be haunted by doubts. Why can't you just wait
a little while? Why do you always have to be first? But a true FTF
hunter never gives in to such thoughts. |
The challenge for the rest of you is to snatch this one away
from the tributee. Now go! GO!
