This tree is beautiful, even in death! It's practically on the trail; you really can't miss it. I give it a rub for luck everytime I run by.
This is one of my many favorite places in the park. It's quiet here, because the terrain faces away from all highways, and into the area of Far Country. The southern exposure brings a different mix of vegetation. If you know what kind of tree this was, let me know. I had originally thought Madrone, because it's so smooth, but it's too straight and the grain is wrong.
This trail is also one of my favorites, because it is narrower and less "improved". I hope you enjoy this part of Cougar Mountain, too. Be sure to say "Hi" if you see me run past!

No need to leave the trail to find the cache. Bring a pencil.
UPDATE: I'm not sure how long this amazing specimin will last - it seems to have a bit more tilt to it, than it did two years ago. Please don't hunt around the base, the cache is not down there.
