Geocache Description:

This is a 35 mm film canister placed off the ground.
Just off pavement approximately 60 feet.
Plenty of parking in dirt area.

This is #35 in our "WEIRD SC" Series which will consist of caches placed at locations where either ghosts, unknown creatures, or just plain weird things have occurred or exist.

We think our State Motto should change to "Smiling Faces, Haunted Places.

Approximately 7/10's of a mile Southwest on Beason Road from the cache sight you will see a rusted "PHILLIP'S 66" gas station sign on the side of the road. The store that was there is long gone, but residents of the area say the former propieter is still haunting the location.

The details as Aries received them were vague, but apparantly in the late 1950's or early 1960's (depending on who you talk to) the owner of the station found his evening employee dead upon arriving to open the station in the early morning hours.

The employee had no marks or injuries on him and no cause of death was ever found.

For several years the community whispered rumours that some type of satanic ritual had occured in the store and that the Devil had come to claim his due in the guise of the store employee.
Most people dismissed this as ignorant ramblings from superstituous locals.

But 10 years later, to the day, the store owner was found dead in the same manner; no marks, no cause of death.

Allegedly late at night weird noises, lights and apparitions can be seen in the area

Aries searched local records but could find no information to back these stories; just several Orangeburg County Deputies who swear it is true as well as a couple of locals who pledge never to go near the area at night.

So why not make it a night cache; then take your picture at the old Phillip's 66 sign.

If you dare.
