Allen Aveune Crossover Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

LavaLizard: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This is a quick park and grab located near the Allen Avenue Crossover at milepost 9.8 of the Metrolink Valley Subdivision.

The Southern Pacific Railroad had a practice of naming railroad items, such as this crossover, after nearby landmarks. In this case Allen Avenue. Other railroads did the same thing.

The tracks are used by Metrolink (both the Ventura and Antelope Valley Lines), Amtrak and the Union Pacific. This section of track is one of the busiest in Southern California with more than 40 trains a day riding these rails.

The crossover switches allow the trains to move between the two mainlines in either direction. This often happens when the dispatcher needs to route trains past each along this busy corridor.

A good view of the signal lights is offered from this location and you can listen to the railroad radio traffic by tuning your radio scanner to AAR Frequency 29 - 160.545

If you visit "The Road Less Traveled" cache (GCY347) nearby you can get a great birds eye view of this section of track.
