Le B24
“Liberator” est l’un des plus célèbres
bombardiers lourds américains de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Il
détient le record de l’avion U.S. le plus produit de l’histoire. Il
fut utilisé par les Américains et les Alliés durant le conflit
1940-1945 sur tous les théâtres (européen, pacifique et
méditerranéen). Souvent comparé avec le B17
« Flying
Fortress », le B24 était de
conception plus moderne avec une vitesse de pointe plus élevée, un
rayon d’action supérieur et un chargement de bombes plus
importante. L’un de ces B24 s’écrasa dans la campagne perwézienne
le 12 avril 1944, de retour d’Allemagne. En 2004 fut inauguré un
monument commémoratif, en présence du Colonel Shawn, chef de
l’équipage du Liberator. Cette cache
traditionnelle lui est dédiée. Attention, il n’est pas permis de
rouler en voiture sur ce chemin strictement réservé aux piétons,
cyclistes et véhicules agricoles. Venez ici à pied ou à vélo,

The
B-24 “Liberator” was an American heavy bomber. It was produced in
greater numbers than any other American combat aircraft of World
War II and still holds the record as the most produced U.S.
military aircraft. It was used by many Allied air forces and every
U.S. branch of service during the war on the northern European,
Pacific and Mediterranean theaters.
Often compared to the better known B-17 Flying Fortress, the B-24
was a more modern design with a higher top speed and greater range
and a higher bomb load. One of these B24, back from a bombing
mission in Germany, crashed on 12 April 1944 near Perwez, in the
middle of the fields. In 2004 a monument was built with the
presence of Colonel Shawn, the Liberator’s crew commander. This
traditional cache honours his memory. Be aware that you are not
allowed to drive here with your geomobile, on a path strictly
reserved to walkers, bikers and agriculture vehicles. Come here by
