(Edited 11/28/2011 due to the destruction of Hurricane Irene, and again on 08/22/2021 due to a suspended webpage, and again on 11/17/2022 due to construction at the final location)
The I.P. is for (what once was) Obelisk 4, outside the Wilmington Visitor's Center. Once a required starting point for your journey, it's now just the recommended one to make the most of your visit since all of the following stops can be experienced sequentially, leading up to the final location.
N42* 52.ABC
W072* 52.DEF
A = Above the entrance to Village Roost is a number... what is the 2nd digit?
B = Crafts Inn has two numbers on their sign... what is the 1st digit of the smaller number?
C = Outside Chapman's Antiques is a stairway leading up to the porch... how many steps?
D = At the Molly Stark statue, how many children are with her?
E = There is a free mason symbol in a star, above the doorway to a yellow church... what is the street number?
F = How many red doors are at the entrance to St. Mary's in the Mountains?
You can find this information by physically walking along Main Street or virtually via Google Street View. You can also drive to the final location from this starting point, but walking it is the suggested method to get the full effect of why I placed this. During your travels you can think of the classic Dickens Village being Wilmington and reflect on the history of this juncture in the roadway.
Like Dickens Village, this cache is potentially winter friendly. I hope you enjoy the walking tour!
