Val Veny, Aosta Valley, Italy. Inaccessible in winter. 2,100 mt.
From Courmayeur, bus/car to La Visaille, Val Veny. From where the road is closed to traffic, proceed on foot along the road to Lago Combal (very easy-about 30 mins). . Without crossing the bridge, turn right and follow steep, well marked path to Ghiacciaio del Miage. (the Miage Glacier) (10 minutes).
The cache can be found in the vicinity of the border of this extraordinary glacial lake.
The cache was created by teachers and students from 8 nations during a workmeeting held in Courmayeur for a European Comenius project entitled "Treasures of the Mountains". The cache is a regular size plastic, waterproof container and contains souvenirs from all 8 countries involved in the project: Spain, Austria, Slovenia, Slovakia, Turkey, Norway, Poland and Italy. The cache is hidden and protected under rocks and vegetation. But even if it takes time to find, you will be witnessing one of the great wonders of nature..... a 13 kilometre long glacier, whose source lies in the heart of Monte Bianco, melting into a glacial lake. The scenery is awe-inspiring.
There is a bar at lake Combal, but it is open only from mid July to mid August
