Cache is located at the Chafer Beetle Reserve in Cromwell, Central
Otago. It is a 400ml container, with log, pencil and a few small
swaps.
The Cromwell chafer is a Critically Endangered beetle found at just
one site in Cromwell, New Zealand.
It is a flightless beetle that belongs to the same family as dung
beetles.
This large beetle has pale reddish-brown wing cases (elytra) which
are strongly convex and feature deep lines passing along their
length. Females are longer and wider than males, but males have
longer lower legs (tibiae) and larger hind feet.
The Reserve was set up in 1983 and at the time was the only
reserve in the world to created solely for an invertebrate.
Cache
The cache is located beside the Reserve. There is no need to go
into the Reserve!
The cache is a 400ml container which is located slightly below
ground level. When placed it contained, a log book, a pencil and
pencil sharpener, some small swaps.
This cache is part of my A to Z of the Cromwell Area.
At each cache in the alphabet there will be a special code: note
this down and the letter it corrosponds to - there will be caches
in the future that use these codes. Happy hunting.
