Geocache Description:

These omnivorous trees are located on Beaver Island State Park property. As such, PLEASE remember State Park rules….NO NIGHT CACHING!
Parking is available nearby.

This section of Grand Island used to be ‘Mansion Row’ in the 1800’s. Now only one mansion remains…River Lea, located inside the park near the tip of the island. But, here we have an old cut limestone wall, whose early history is all but forgotten.
However, it was the early homestead of the Frank Offermann family, who owned the Buffalo Bison’s in 1920! The team eventually built the Bison Stadium in 1924, and upon his death in 1934, they quickly renamed it “Offermann Stadium”. The team played there until 1960.

Once the family left, the Grand Island Knights of Columbus moved in for several years. Eventually all of the nearby land was taken over by the state and deeded to Beaver Island State Park. At that time, all of the mansions were torn down. Archeologists from Buffalo State came into the area at that time and did quite a few digs, not the least of which, was right here on this property. Many arrowheads and other Native American artifacts were recovered.

So maybe the trees along this wall are hungry for more then just stone…..maybe they are searching for their long forgotten roots! Find the right tree and you will find the cache.
