Geocache Description:

Start from the Visitors Center and search out the Shingle Oak Trail. Remember to stay on the trail during this walk. You’re looking for a large container hidden in the Bone Yard area. There’s no telling what you’ll see, or smell, decaying in this area. Interpretative signage along the Shingle Oak Trail adds insight to the flora and fauna along this loop trail. Think about walking the Sycamore Trail, which branches off of the Shingle Oak Trail.

Come see the 1,050-acre Fernald Preserve. The site is open 7 days a week from 7:00 a.m. to dusk. The Visitors Center and exhibit area are open Wednesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This preserve provides a unique opportunity to see how efficiently and effectively nature responds to a large-scale ecological restoration effort. The site has amazing wildlife, including muskrats, beaver, and birds, that can often be seen in the wetlands and open water. The woodlands, prairies, and savannahs are home to a variety of mammals and reptiles, as well as native and migratory birds. Please observe all postings while visiting the Fernald Preserve. Pets are not allowed because they often scare the wildlife. Permission to place by the Department of Energy..
