Geocache Description:

3rd Hole of the Breaver Creek Open

Welcome to the Beaver Creek Open.

Our cache course open consists of 18 hides in a loop around Beaver Creek. The caches are placed in a counter clockwise loop within the 3,346 acre Beaver Creek Sate Forest. While hiking in the Susquehanna Hills our caches will be found along the truck trails, horse trails and near public roads.

The Open was created to be a continuous hike which will take just over 5 1/2 hours to complete. All hides should be easy to find and because of the obvious, this will be cacheable year round.

The loop can be done in sections and if done with several cachers (cars maybe parked along the way to prevent back tracking). Parts of the trails are used by snowmobilers in the winter, but closed to horses and bikes from October 31 to May 1.

Much of the land in upstate New York was first owned and worked by soldiers of the American Revolution. After the war with no money for payment of services, land grants were doled out to the men who fought for our freedom from England. For the most part the higher the rank and longer the term of service the bigger and better the piece of land used as payment. These plots of property were laid out with simple North South East West boundry lines. Much easier for the surveyors of that time. This east to west rockwall is a fine example of this, along with the use of cleared stones from farmable land to create easy to locate boundries and livestock fencing.

Our next hole along the course will shown you a very good example of the north to south line.

For the time being the cache is a 35 mil film vial but that will most likely change. Please the cache is not in the rock wall and we would ask that you do not remove any of the rocks. these caches were meant to be easy and bring you to areas of interest.
