Ardmillan
Village
is a small
village at the mouth of the River Blackwater on the shores of
Strangford Lough. Over the years this small village has had a
Bleach Mill, a Corn Mill and a Flax Mill. During the
19th century the village was predominantly a fishing
village in the 1839’s the village mainly consisted of mainly
Fisherman’s huts and a list of traders which included a
Woollen Draper, a Tailor, 2 Grocers, 3 Publicans, a Nailer and 5
Shopkeepers this supplied the 313 inhabitants in the 1821 census.
This is a big difference to 1981 when I moved into the village when
there was only about 13 residents and 6 houses and one Orange Hall.
Today the village is growing again with a large number of new
houses being built and more to be built and new families along with
them.
The Cache is a magnetic
nano with no pencil so please bring one along. There is plenty of
on street parking the best place would be along the front of the
Orange Hall but please be careful not to block the driveways of the
local residents.
Please
remember that this is a small village so the muggles see
everything.
