Born two weeks after his father’s death, a prisoner of war
at age 13, and an oprhan by age 14, Andrew Jackson grew up tough.
In fact, he was so tough that his nickname was “Old
Hickory.” Before becoming the seventh President of the United
States, Jackson fought 13 duels in his life, mostly over gambling
debts. On May 30, 1806, he shot and killed a man who attacked his
wife’s honor. Before winning the duel, however, Jackson took
a bullet to the chest which was lodged so close to his heart that
the doctors felt it best to just leave it there. And you thought
