Geocache Description:

Welcome to South Ossett & to a cache once owned and maintained by my husband (gillymalcy/maninashed). Sadly he died from Pancreatic Cancer in 2014 & so I adopted this and other caches in 2015.

The area you are now in is Sowood, a corruption of the word Southwood.

From the hide if you look to your left you will see Brookes farm, this present building dates from the 17th century, it is believed that it was built on the site of an earlier fortified manor. Turning to the right slightly there is a building site, this was the South Ossett tram depot until earlier this year, the trams started running from here in 1904 and finally finished in 1932. Until recently it was a highways materials testing laboratory run by Leeds and Wakefield councils. Along with the trams from North Ossett they would run from Belle isle (Agbrigg) to Dewsbury. Ossett Civic Trust has tried to save this building but were unable to do so. Having placed this Cache recently I have noticed that you can at present get a nice view of Emley mast. If you travel by bus catch any 126/7 and there is a bus stop within several yards of the hide.

Home to the Centenary Princess and her Knight in Shining Armour.
