The cache owner needs to check on this cache as soon as possible and either confirm that the cache is functional, replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in a couple of weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. Geocache Description:


While I was out pulling the container for FTF Pirate 3 so I could archive the cache I decided to hide another out in this part of Shelby Farms. Over on this side of the park there are very few traditional hides. There are some mystery multis but not enough regular hides to entice people to explore this part of the park.

After finding a nice hiding spot I stood there a bit as my GPSr averaged the coordinates. As I waited I thought about what I should name the cache. My mind wandered to a Memphis area cacher who is no longer with us, Spencersb. Mind you, it is not that he has passed away, rather he moved west. Far, far west and it is very rare when he gets the opportunity to come and cache with us in Memphis.

Spencersb has either hidden or been a co-hider on some very enjoyable caches in our area. The Dark Tower series and Nighttime Squirrel hunt spring instantly to mind. When you hunt a Spencersb cache you know that you are going to have the opportunity to tromp about in the woods and visit interesting places. This hide should also allow you to do that. So, Steve, this one is for you buddy. Hopefully you will have the opportunity to come to Memphis some time and hunt it.

The cache itself is easy to find, once you get there. There is a trail that leads within twenty feet or so to the hide. The trail is rather difficult to find though as it is overgrown and I am not sure if it is on any trail maps. You very well may not be able to locate it. If you do though you will save yourself from a rather nasty, and muddy, creek crossing. Good luck and happy caching!
