Many foreigners passed along this slope in EDO era.
From the Edo era to the Meiji era, people except the Oriental passed this slope well. There is an opinion that this slope came to be called the Holland Slope, because in those days those people were called as "Holland-san".
There is a rare triangular gutter if you go more up the stairs from this cache area. This triangle shape keeps a fast flow even if it has low quantity of water, therefore it flushes the garbage well.
