Geocache Description:

Quick Cache and Dash near to the church of St. Aldhelm and St. Eadburgha. Parking close to the cache.

Why is St. Aldhelm and St. Eadburgha church built 1/2 mile out of the village of Broadway?

Legend has it that the original site of the Church was around where Neroche School is now. The men working on the constuction of the church worked for weeks clearing the site ready for the foundations to be laid. When the first stones were laid the men retired to the local inn for a way of celebration, When the workers returned to the site in the morning, be it a little bleary eyed, they found that the foundation stones had gone, they were found a few hours later outside the village boundary. They spent the rest of the day returning the stones to their original location. On return in the morning the stones had been moved again to the same place, This went on for 6 days. On the 7th day it was decided they would rest and leave the stones in situ. On returning to work the next day the foundation stones were found to be beautifuly laid, like the work of a master craftsman. The workers were now scared and thought that this was the work of the Devil, and as not to bring harm to the village the church was built where it is to be found today.

The cache is in a small cylindrical pot only large enough for a logbook and pencil ...... lets hope the Devil doesn't move the cache!
