This is the darker side of the Seddon / Yarraville area and is in stark contrast to the expensive residential real estate that can be found nearby. No doubt the area will eventually be redeveloped, but in the interim it will remain as is.
This is a popular area for graffiti artists as evidence can be demonstrated along the brick wall. Because of the lack of illumination at night, hence the name, it is occasionally frequented by parkers.
The disused rail line turned off the main line just west of the rail bridge that crosses the Maribrynong River and used to go into what is now a container yard to the south, but prior to that it was a briquette storage yard. As a train driver by profession, I have shunted many a train into the yard, often with delays due to motorists parking their cars either too close to or even across the track itself thinking the siding was not in use. This was especially so near Footscray Road where the fishery and fishing trawlers were located.
Anglers often fish from the mouth of the drain and I have seen some good sized bream pulled from the river.
The cache you will be looking for is smallish containing a log and pencil but it may pay to bring your own pen.
The cache is easilly accessible by road or from a nearby cycle / foot path.
