Geocache Description:

Located in the regeneration area behind the Conservation Halton main office. Small but somewhat steep hill to go up before reaching a flat meadow area, fairly easy hide from the parking lot (but trail is no longer mown). Container is camo'ed 1L lock'n lock.

Welcome to the Conservation Halton administration office! This site was originally the local grade school, after the school closed a new use was made of the property as the head office for Conservation Halton.

Many years ago the decision was made to move the grounds towards a more ecological function and many of the mown areas were converted to meadows and prairie grasslands and the edges were planted with trees to provide a buffer for the nearby forests, thus reducing edge impacts. The cache is placed in the edge of this regeneration area. Sadly we have recently lost some of the regeneration area to a new and improved septic system.

The cache is located not far from this mown septic bed but the most direct trail to the cache is no longer maintained. You will have to go 'of trail' as the former trail is no longer mown to the cache, please try not to trample too many of our wildflowers. But do watch out for puddles as we have a seep (small spring) that releases water that has traveled underground down the hill from the escarpment after rains. A ring of drain pipe was added around the septic in 2015 to prevent this rain water run off from affecting the septic. The regeneration area continues behind the building and back to the fence, feel free to explore it. Beware of golf balls from the cource over the fence if you venture that way! In the summer and fall this area is full of wildflowers and in the fall it is bouncing full of butterflies and bumblebees.

The administration office is now generaly closed to the public. Staff continue to work on permit issues. If you need staff for a regulation or permit issue please call, email or drop your inquiery into the mail slot on the main north door. Visitors may park here for short periods and use the regeneration area. No overnight parking allowed. There are a few picnic tables outside on the grass you are free to use. No washroom facilities available. Cache should be retrievable in light snow but maybe not deep snow.

Information about Halton Conservation and our Geocaching Policies can be seen on our profile page, please take some time to learn more or feel free to contact me with any questions.
