Geocache Description:

A pretty steep climb. Accessible all year. Easy to find in the snow! It should be 9-10' high with an optional ladder nearby. (Note ladder is no longer hidden near ground zero) It is in the open near the flag pole) If you are not comfortable climbing the tree, you can grab the ladder and bring it to the tree. Please put the ladder back where you found it. If you find the cache on the ground, please replace it into the big Yellow Birch tree at ground zero so that it can be found in the winter.

Cache is a small ammo can and should be in a big Yellow Birch tree so that it does not get covered by snow.  Do not confuse the summit log hanging in the peanut butter jar as the cache.  Cache is set back a short distance from the trail.

One of the best kept secrets in Central Vermont! Actually on Rochester Mountain but nicknamed Bunk-er Hill after the man who puts Old Glory up there. There's also a small observation platform to help you get a better view. You can get to the cache from either Rochester or Randolph. I placed this cache on mountain bike coming up from the Randolph side. From Randolph take School St which turns into Thayer Brook Rd. Take a left at the 3 corners and take it almost to the end. Just before it ends you will see a four corners. Take a right and drive up as far as your vehicle allows. There is a turn around/parking spot before the road starts to get rough. It's approx 1.5 miles each way from there. The road was in good shape when I placed the cache but pretty washed out when I checked on it in July of 2002. Elevation change is approx 1620' at parking spot to approx 2959' at the cache. I ended up pushing my bike a lot. The ride back down is a blast! I have no idea what the road is like coming up from the Rochester side but I've heard it is very rocky and should not be tried with a 4WD when it's wet. Use the Topo Zone map by clicking the link below to see the 4WD trail to Randolph Gap. Once at the top there is a four corners. The trail you need to take heads south and is is not shown on the Topo map because it is an ATV trail. A few 4WD's have made it all the way but it is a very steep, narrow trail. (I say again, narrow ATV trail!) The snowmobile trail in winter is usually pretty good. The real treasure here is the view but the cache is not far from the flag pole. I'll show you a picture of the flag pole but you'll have to go to the top to see the view.

This cache is not what some would consider a "vacation cache". Although I am currently living in VA, I grew up in this area and still have family and friends that will check on or repair this cache if needed. Please send me an email if you think it needs some attention.
