The Sakai Lighthouse was built in 1877. It is the oldest wooden lighthouse present in Japan designated as National Historic Site.
The lighthouse had been active until 1968 when it no longer played the role by the surrounding landfills developed in the bay. The lighthouse underwent extensive repair works in 2001 through 2006 to restore the original beautiful appearance.

Please mind that the elevated highway running very close to the lighthouse may prevent good GPS signal reception. The coordinates represent the location of the lighthouse, -- but the cache position is a little far from the coordinates. You must read the hints.
