“Finally!” Piranha exclaimed with glee. “A quick and simple grab cache site that ain’t a hundred mile hike through snake and mosquito infested jungles. Civilization (meaning food) right at our fingertips and nary a danger to avoi-” he broke off suddenly as he lost his balance and toppled tail first off the rock wall into the brush below.
Caffeine glanced down at his friend’s sprawled form and shook his head slowly in disbelief. “Maybe we should have waited until they installed an escalator, eh?” he asked as he watched a groaning Piranha feebly wrestle with a rather predatory blackberry vine that had slithered out and wrapped itself around his ankle. “Real funny,” Piranha grumbled, pulling the vicious foliage from his leg and surveying in dismay the blood dripping from his shredded sock. “I take back what I just said. You promised a quick and easy cache site and what I git is poo landmines and another hike through the jungles of Hades!” He grimaced again as he pulled out another blackberry punji sticker from his wounded leg.
“Mmmm…” Caffeine nodded, gazing around from the deserted and amazingly jungle and demon-free parking lot where he was standing 10 feet from his friend. “I can’t really say that any of our caches have been really that far out in the wilderness,” he paused. “Ok, so the Mystery of the Obsidian Capstone is a bit far out but still not exactly a Stanley looking for Livingstone type of trek. And,” he pondered for moment, “I don’t think that any cache within two minutes of a Starbucks could be categorized as even a suburb of Hades. So I’m afraid you're exaggerating as usual. Think positive though. At least you didn’t conk your head on one of those big rocks or logs over there.” Caffeine pointed. “Yea,” Piranha muttered, getting to his feet and walking the short distance to join his partner, “just what this trip needs, more sticks and stones to break my bones.”
“So, are we there yet?,” Piranha asked hopefully while unwrapping one of his favorite peanut treats, “or should I refuel?” “Relax,” Caffeine replied, “Your arduous journey--all of say… 50 feet--is over.”
“So after all that effort, where is the cache?” Piranha asked around a mouthful of peanut yummy while peering about with a perplexed look on his face. Caffeine rolled his eyes at the “effort” comment and said a bit exasperated, “If you’d open your eyes instead of your mouth it would be easy. In fact I’ll give you two guesses but if it takes you more than one, you should be fired!” “Which,” Caffeine mused for a moment, “would be very easy with this cache.”
(Note: bring your own pen to sign the log ...and watch where you're walking. Inconsiderate dog owners have made the first part a real poo-land)
