Once upon a time, Galston was actually the hub of Ayrshire. Ah!!!...... Do we hear guffaws of laughter or are they simply noises of excitement in anticipation of collecting further historic pearls of wisdom? This wee town sprung up at what was the most important crossroads in Ayrshire. The main route north from Cumnock and Dumfries to Glasgow passed through Galston as did the main routes east from Ayr, Kilmarnock and Irvine to Lanark and Edinburgh. At that time the town would have thrived successfully on business from travellers and drovers and perhaps that is the reason for it once having had so many licensed premises (more than ten). OK ...... So! Let's now get on with the business of caching. On arrival at the GZ you will immediately notice that any coopers to be found around here will be of the four wheeled mini variety. There is plentiful parking available at the supermarket car park. This could best be described as an urban ‘Cache ‘n Dash’, but, in keeping with most urban caches there might be a high muggle presence to contend with. Stealth is therefore the keyword. Due to the nature of GZ, your GPS signals may be just as poor as the ones we had when placing the cache. The container is large enough for coins and small TBs and suitable only for small swaps. N.B. Even more stealth is now needed as the bush cover has recently been removed.
