Admiral Benbow's Cache Traditional Cache
Highlander 71: Many thanks to all who looked for this one. Sorry if you had a DNF. For the majority of its life it was a small fake rock, and I tried to keep it away form the thorns as much as I could. Three replacements are my limit here so it's time to free up the area.

Despite the name, this cache has nothing to do with pirates or buried treasure. Benbow Park is a small, off-the-beaten-path community park with 3 tennis courts and a nice area to explore. South of the park is West Bay Elementary School, where I attended grades 1 thru 4.
At that time, this area wasn't just another neighbourhood of expensive houses. It was forest & bush, from the edge of the gravel playing field where I first learned to play baseball right up to the original Upper Levels Highway. There was a trail that ran from the school to the new highway and every summer we used to take our pails and spend the afternoon gathering sweet, delicious blackberries. We would usually arrive back home with our hands, mouths, and clothes stained purple from all the picking and eating. At the north end of the school are exit doors where we often stood enthralled, our teacher having led us quietly out of class to gaze at a pair of deer casually munching on leaves. We used to play hide-and-seek in the woods where this park and tennis courts are today, so I thought it would be a rather appropriate area to hide a cache.
This is a very small container and a pencil sharpener won't fit inside, so you'll want to bring a pen along in case. There are several parking spots along Benbow Road near the tennis courts so there is absolutely no need to set foot on school property or bother the neighbours.
