Smokey Joe was just about the greatest cat you could ever meet. Everyone who met him loved him and he loved everyone he met. Smokey was a big guy but he was a gentle giant. He happily welcomed other kitties on his turf and had no hatred of dogs either (but he didn't like barking. It hurt his ears). Smokey even was kind to fish and lil' rodents. He realized humans liked to keep odd critters around and he was happy to indulge us in our strange ways. We didn't adopt Smokey, he adopted us. He just arrived one day and informed us he was moving in but we were welcome to stay if we wanted. Smokey was a big talker and never failed to come to greet us at the door and let us know what had happened while we were away. Likewise, any strangers were always greeted and thanked for bringing a new warm lap for him to try out. Smokey was also a clever guy and a problem solver. No closed door or obstacle slowed him down for long. Sadly, Smokey Joe went on to play with the big yarn ball in the sky in the early morning hours of December 18th 2009. Things won't ever be the same without him around. We'll miss you buddy!
