Geocache Description:


YOU WILL NEED A CANOE OR KAYAK TO COMPLETE THIS CACHE!!!

Don’t worry this should a relatively quick....about a hour paddle...up and down the Des Plaines River Water Trail (DPRWT).

The listed coordinates are for the 1st of three stages.

At each stage you will find a marker similar to a dog tag that will provide you with the last four digits for the North and West coordinates to the next stage. Simply replace the last four digits of the listed coordinates with the ones from the tag. For example, the tag may have N 3.123 on one side and W 4.456 on the other side; and thus, the coordinates for the next stage would be N 42 23.123 W 087 54.456.

You may start your paddle from Gowe Park Canoe Launch.

WARNINGS \ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The section between the 1st Stage and Gowe Park tends to remain navigable until the average temperatures are under 20F.
If there is ice on this section of the river save this cache for another day. Do NOT attempt to walk on the ice. Due to the river currents the ice tends to remain thin with uneven thickness.

Make sure your canoe\kayak has the proper registration and all required safety equipment. The LCFPD rangers perform spot checks!

In the winter, please be sure to wear a wet-suit or dry-suit and bring extra clothes in case you accidently fall in the water!
