Geocache Description:

Landscape and geology

The range of hills that both Svinkløv and most of Kollerup Plantation are on, have been a large island in the sea of the Stone Age. At that time the water level was 5-6 meters higher than today. The coast cliffs of that time are now even more marked in the landscape, especially at the Northern side of Svinkløv Plantation, by Svinklovene and through Kollerup Plantation. The subsurface consists of white chalk, and at several spots the chalk is uncovered, among others by Svinklovene and Slette Å. On top of the white chalk are the deposits of the Ice Age and on top of them are layers of shifting sand, which have varied depths. This is due to centuries of sand drift.
