Geocache Description:

A nice view of a new industry. Easy find.

QUICK FACTS about East Kansas Agri-Energy
. Planning on the project began in December 2000.
. Groundbreaking was on October 24, 2004.
. Construction was completed in June 2005. An industry record was set when the EKAE plant was completed in just eight months.
. The first gallon was produced on June 22, 2005. Another industry record was set when the facility went from startup to full production in just three days.
. The facility is on pace to grind 13 million bushels of corn per year, produce 35 million gallons of ethanol and 171,000 tons of wet and dried distillers grain per year.

This is located with permission of the landowner who produces corn to be used in the ethanol process.

To the north is another Kansas View. This one was built in 1959. See the attached image.

New info: While our nameplate capacity calls for 35 million gallons of ethanol, we now convert more than 16 million bushels of corn a year into more than 42 million gallons of fuel grade ethanol. Along the way we produce more than 200,000 tons of distiller grains, in both wet and dry form, for livestock producers every year. In May 2009, East Kansas Agri-Energy began producing corn oil, another value-added product, at the rate of 15,000 pounds per day, a figure that is greatly exceeded today.

EKAE can trace its roots to 2000 when a steering committee formed by farmers and businesspeople interested in building a value-added ethanol production facility in eastern Kansas got together with the support of the Agriculture Sub-Committee of the Anderson County Economic Development (ACED) organization.
