Quick grab off U.S. 45 between Brookport and Metropolis. The container is a black nano-tube near the historical marker. There once was a geocache called "Cache on the Side" (GCJEH0) near this location.
Southern Illinois has a rich history and many wonderful sites to explore ranging from prehistoric mound to a frontier fort to civil war encampments. This historical marker is along the Ohio River Scenic Byway. This history-rich byway meanders along the Ohio River banks, hugging its shoreline and offering almost continuous views of the river. If you are up to it, take a trip across the Ohio River to Paducah by crossing the Irvin S. Cobb Bridge (also known as the Brookport Bridge), a ten-span, narrow two-lane truss bridge with an open deck. The bridge is named after Irvin S. Cobb, an author and journalist who was born in Paducah. To some it is called the Blue Hummer. Try it and you will see why.
