That Old House in Guyandotte Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

eightwednesday: This cache has had an amazing run, we can hardly believe that over 200 people found it over the past eight years! However, we've moved out of the area. We do hope this area is ripe for another wonderful cache.

While visiting for Thanksgiving I picked up the old container. There is nothing to be found except some old cinder blocks at the posted coordinates.

Geocache Description:

Quick park and grab near the oldest house in Cabell County, beware of muggles!

The Buffington House, the red one at the end of the block, is the oldest house in Cabell County built there and is currently, and appropriately, occupied by the Guyandotte Historical Society. So when grabbing this cache, try to imagine what this house looked like when it was built in 1798.

After doing some additional research, spurred by comments made in the logs, I've found from a few sources that the Madie Carroll House, also in Guyandotte, is older but it was not built in Cabell County and it was floated down the river to it's present location after the building of the Buffington House.

NOTE: There are two dogs in a yard very close to this cache. They are friendly dogs. They may bark, but the yard is fenced in and they don't go beyond their fenced yard.
