Geocache Description:

This cache was spawned from the 2009 Boston Red Sox Roster Series (GC1TBZ1). The final has been placed at the Williams Street Fields, home of Marlborough Youth Baseball. Parking is available off both Williams Street and Lizotte Drive. NOTE: This is NOT a snow-friendly cache!

Jonathan Tyler Lester (b. 1/7/84) was drafted in the first round by the Red Sox in 2002. He pitched in a World Series clinching game and has hurled a no-hitter. But, he is also well known for his successful battle overcoming Lymphoma in 2006. His triumphant struggle and his return to top baseball form (just one year later) made him an easy fan favorite.

The coordinates will take you to a telephone pole behind the little league fields. To find the cache from here, simply answer the following 4 questions, make a few calculations and plug in some numbers to obtain a quick coordinate offset.

1. What is Jon Lester’s uniform number? _____ = AB
2. How many World Series Titles have the Red Sox won between 1919 and 2009? _____ = C
3. There is a 2nd telephone pole about 40 feet away from the one you are standing at. The sign above has another famous Red Sox player's name with their uniform number. That number is _____ = D
4. Prior to this year (2009), Jon Lester was a member of which World Champion Red Sox team? _____ = EFGH

XXX = (D-H)/1000
YYY = (AB x (C+E)) + H + F + B

Offset your starting telephone pole coordinates by the following to get to the final: -.XXX North and +.YYY West

Alternative Solution: For those of you who like to project waypoints, you can project the following from the start coords: 5D4 feet at a bearing of C6D.

The container is a 4"x6" lock & lock style container. Initial contents include some Red Sox themed items as well as a FTF package.

NOTE: In June of 2009 I was asked by Marlborough DPW to move the cache outside of the watershed borders created by the newly posted blue signs. The cache is now much more "watershed friendly". Please respect the posted "No Trespassing" signs.
Since I needed to change the final location and make some necessary changes to the actual puzzle, refinds are allowed.

Congratulations to UMass72 on the FTF and GPScouts on STF!

Go Sox!!!

Benchmarking Note: MY5643 (designation 189 W) is the closest and easiest to find.
