We Will Rock You Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
A nice little stroll to some weathered rock formations and views. No need for bush bashing a well formed track leads near to GZ.
The cache is located well back from the edge, but be careful when looking around, and hold onto kids - it is a long way down.
Cache is a 1L Sistema, just small swaps and trackables please.
Please be very careful to rehide it well as muggles do come here.
The rocks around here are formed from sandstone and ironstone. The sandstone weathers away leaving the ridges of ironstone sticking out.
Make sure you go out to the edge and have a look at the view. You are looking at the Empire Pass area. I have been unable to find a name for the swamp you can see, but it is of interest - the swamps in this area of the mountains are home to a rare and endangered skink. More info available by doing the Long Alley walk
While you are in the area -
At the other end of the road a trail leads off over more rock platforms, it heads down the hill and ends up at Lawson Long Alley Swamp, from there you can circle around to the fire trail and back to your car. It only takes 30-45mins to do and is a pleasant walk. It is in National Park which is why this cache is not in there.
Trailhead at approx S 33" 42.238 E 150" 26.717
Lawson Ridge Fire trail extends from here for 20km and is well known as a great mtb ride. A little way along the fire trail is Blue Mountain Trig Point (yep there is a mountain up here called Blue Mountain).
Also on the road on the way in is Kangaroo St, take the turn and check out the Aboriginal carving of a kangaroo in the rocks, also protected by NP.
This is our first hide, feedback is welcome.
