Geocache Description:

Take a load off at this micro park! Looking east from the end of the grassy area, you will see one of Anacortes' most unique landmarks. Bring a lunch and enjoy the views after you've signed the log. The day we placed it (Christmas Eve 2009) was nice and sunny, and we had a great visit. Enjoy!

We have subsequently found out that this ship is called "La Merced." She was a 232-foot 4-masted schooner built in 1917 during World War I. She was used for nearly 10 years in the Pacific coastal and offshore petroleum transport trade. In 1966, after many years as a floating cannery and in lay-up storage she was sold to Tony Lovric of Anacortes as a breakwater for his marina. (source: PSMHS)
