Geocache Description:

The SQ in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project to distinguish those caches that are set in cemeteries or memorial gardens. This is a good distinction to put on this type of cache and would like to see it used here in Michigan. Please be respectful of the area, and observe their rules and posted hours, Only visit cemeteries dawn to dusk through out the state unless other hours are posted, so that we do not end up like other states that do not allow any caches placed in any cemeteries!

Quite a title, Detroit’s #1 Don, for many they don’t know what this title is. Don is what they called the bosses of the underworld. Gangsters organized in big cities around the country shortly after the turn of the 20th century. Detroit first Italian mafia don, or La Cosa Nostra don, was Black Bill Tocco. In 1936 Black Bill Tooco headed off to prison for tax evasion, at that time he turned over the rains to his underboss and brother-in-law Joe (Giuseppe) Zerilli. Joe Zerilli was 39 at the time and continued to be Detroit’s #1 don until passing away in 1977.

After becoming boss Joe Zerilli showed that he was a good pick for the part. He brought and kept stability and efficiency to the Detroit Mob. With this he was looked up to by bosses of other big cities, so much so that he given a seat on “The Commission”, the U.S. Mafia’s supreme governing council. This position was quit an honor as most that sat on The Commission were bosses from New York alone.

There is a whole lot more that can be told and learned about Joe Zerilli, I think we will leave that for another cache. Finding info will take some time as the internet has shows some info on Wikipedia, unfortunately it has many mistakes written about him there. I know this sounds arrogant of me, the truth is I have learned much over the years about Joe Zerilli as I knew him during the last year and a half of his life. For this I will not use info that I do not know to be fact.

Now for the puzzle part of this cache. The posted co-ords will take you to the resting place. Once here you will pay your respects to Joe if you would like and then take a look at family members to gather the numbers that will take you to a small lock-n-lock container.

From Giuseppe Zerilli’s grave you will look for the graves of Antonino Zerilli and Rosalia Zerilli.
