IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD TO THIS SERIES, PLEASE CONTACT THE SERIES OWNER(SEE BELOW).

We are often told (correctly, if somewhat ideologically), that geocaches should take us to somewhere "interesting", and not simply be placed just for the sake of it. The aim of this series is to try and adhere to this ideal by basing caches around details given on an Information Board about the area in which it is situated. By definition, it is hoped that this information will be "interesting", and will help the cacher discover things about the area that would often not be revealed by a traditional cache

This is a simple “offset” Multicache set in a delightful woodland in Bath. The cache location is less than a quarter of a mile from the posted coordinates.

Terrain involves paths which can be muddy and not suitable for pushchairs/wheelchairs. If you park at the “easy access” parking, it is a short walk with a small hill; or it can be done as part of a longer, more challenging walk.

The Primrose Hill Community Woodland is a 24 acre community woodland open to everyone, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. A place to walk, relax, have a picnic, take the dog, enjoy the views, and commune with nature. It is located between Lansdown Road and Weston Village, and within walking distance of the city centre of Bath. The views of the surrounding countryside are spectacular.

More information about the Woodland can be found on this web site: Primrose Hill Community Woodland

There is parking available nearby on Fonthill Road N 51 23.992 W 002 22.463.

If you want to make it a longer walk, you can walk from the city centre. Or you can also do this as a circular walk; e.g. park on Summerhill Road N 51° 23.645 W 002° 22.613. Walk up Sion Road, to Waldegrave Road, to College Road, to Fonthill Road. After finding the cache, exit the Woodland at N51 23.965 W 002 22.892 towards Weston. You can then pick up the Cotswold Way which will take you back to your car. Terrain rating increases to 3 if you do this walk.

At the posted coordinates you will find an Information Sign.

Near the top of this sign there are a number of nature photos of identical size. The values of A, B, and C relate to these photos only:

A = Number of photos of Birds
B = Number of photos of Mammals
C = Number of photos of Butterflies

Elsewhere on the sign you will find:

D = The number of types of butterfly you are likely to see in Spring
E = The number of types of butterfly you are likely to see in Summer
F=  The number of additional types of butterfly you may spot if you are lucky

That’s all you need to determine the final cache coordinates:

N 51 23.D(A+B+C)(E-A-F)   W 002 22.(D-F)(A+C)(C+F)

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

There are other caches in the area.

Please respect the woodland and follow the guidelines listed on the information sign (e.g. do not climb or damage the trees or pick flowers). The woodland is popular with muggles (and their dogs), so take care retrieving the cache.

To aid in a quick find and avoid those muggles, I have given a specific hint. If you want a challenge finding the cache I suggest trying it without the hint.

Please make sure the cache is well tucked in and not visible to passing muggles.

There is a picnic table available for public use at N51 24.015 W002 22.834.

Note: There is a barbed wire fence in the vicinity of the cache, but you do not need to cross this or get near it to retrieve the cache.

Cache placed with kind permission of the Primrose Hill Community Woodland Trust.

I hope that you find this an interesting variation on the caching experience. For a full list of all FYI caches in the series, please go to

If you would like to add to the series, please contact the Series Owner, Airtomoreira, by emailing him at fyigeocaching@outlook.com. He will allocate a series number to you, and give you some general guidance for placing your cache. If you already have a cache based on an Information Board, and would like to add it to the series, that would be no problem, again, please contact him for a series number.
