This cache is just outside the boundary of American Camp National Historic Park on a trail that starts in the parking lot of the American Camp Visitor's Center and heads out to the Frazer River Homestead. Eventually, this trail will connect all the way in to Friday Harbor.
The cache is at 0.7 miles if you start from the visitor center (which is equipped with restrooms and water). The walk is mostly flat, partially wooded and well maintained. Take your dog, but bring the leash.
Shortly after you head out from the visitor's center on American Camp trail, which starts as a gravel path to the right of the visitor's center, you will soon encounter the choice of a dirt path versus a gravel path - take the dirt path that will lead you to Cattle Point road which you will cross (there is a new septic area surrounded by gravel paths that you don't want to take). You can also reach the cache from the other end of the trail, where it runs along side of Cattle Point Road. The walk is shorter, but you have to park on the side of the road, which is less desirable than the nice parking lot in the visitor's center. Great views of Mt. Baker (on the Canadian border) at this end of the trail. See the google earth photo of the trail in the gallery for perspective.
You can continue on to the Frazer North geocache for a total 3-mile round trip from the parking lot at American Camp.
And don't forget to check out the new Pig War Adventure Lab at American Camp while you are in the area!
